Sports massage is an extension of Kinetic Swedish Massage. During many of the treatments, the client wears sporting clothes, and very little to no oil is used. Swedish massage is a relaxation massage that is based on the body parts. During a one-hour session, the massage therapist will massage the whole body, but will do so one part at a time, for example, just the front of the right leg, then the left and so on. The main focus of a Swedish massage is to help with relaxation, and it is quite gentle.
Kinetic Swedish massage is a technique that is taught at the Montreal massage therapy school Kineconcept. It has taken the theory and basic Swedish principles but added a therapeutic portion to the massage. For example during a Kinetic Swedish Massage, the massage therapist might focus only on the body part that is in pain.
Cranial Sacral Massage is a gentle massage that focuses on the bones of the head, the spinal column, and the sacrum. It is a great compliment to other massage techniques and is wonderful at treating headaches, TMJ problems, back and neck pain.
Shiatsu massage uses a combination of full body movements, acupressure, and energy points. It was derived from Eastern medicine. It is great for treating energy problems and all over body pain.
Reiki is a fully energetic massage, very often the massage therapist will not even touch the person receiving the massage.
Lymphatic Drainage Massage is one of the only massages that is considered medical and is highly recommended to men and women who have had cancer and suffer from chronic swelling.(lymphedema) It can also be used to treat many ailments that are caused by a lack of proper flow to the lymphatic system.
Massages such as Lomi Lomi, Californian, Hot Stone Massage and Thai Yoga Massage are very effective for full body treatments and for releasing all over muscle tensions.
